How to Play — Probability Right

    Objective

Test your probability skills across six different games! The player(s) with the highest score advance to a bonus round. Most points wins!

    Setup

    • 2–5 players can compete
    • Choose difficulty level: 1 (Beginner), 2 (Intermediate), or 3 (Advanced)
    • Each player registers with a nickname
    • Players are assigned games in random order

    Game Flow

    1. Players take turns playing their assigned game
    2. Complete your game within the time limit
    3. Earn points based on your performance
    4. After all games are played, the highest scorer(s) advance to the bonus round
    5. Winner is determined by final score!

    The Six Games

    1. Monte Hall (30 seconds, 1 point)

A candy is hidden under one of three shells. Pick a shell, then we reveal an empty shell. Should you stay or switch?

Tip: Switching gives you a 2/3 chance of winning!

    2. Higher-Lower (30 seconds, 1 point)

Two random numbers (1-50) are face down. You flip one. Guess if the hidden number is higher or lower.

Strategy: If your card is above 25, guess lower. If below 25, guess higher for better than 50% odds!

    3. Poker (30 seconds, 1-20 points)

Predict what poker hand you'll be dealt. Points vary by hand rarity:

    • None of these: 1 point
    • One Pair: 2 points
    • Two Pair: 4 points
    • Three of a Kind: 6 points
    • Straight: 8 points
    • Flush: 9 points
    • Full House: 11 points
    • Four of a Kind: 15 points
    • Straight Flush: 20 points

Note: "None of these" (high card) is actually most common!

    4. Calculation (2 minutes, 2 points)

Solve a probability problem with four possible answers. Questions involve counting, permutations, combinations, and probability calculations based on your difficulty level.

Level 1: Basic counting and combinations

Level 2: Complex arrangements and selections

    Level 3: Advanced probability calculations

    5. Match Game (2 minutes, 1 point each, max 4)

Match four probability questions to their correct answers. You get 1 point for each correct match.

Tip: Work through the math for each question systematically!

    6. Simplification Game (2 minutes, 1 point)

Given a probability expression with combinations, permutations, or factorials, simplify it to a reduced fraction.

Tip: Cancel common factors before multiplying large numbers!

Bonus Round (3 minutes, 5 points)

All players with the highest score advance to the bonus round. A bowl with 40-60 candies and 40-60 cockroaches is shown.

All players estimate a probability involving draws from the bowl (with or without replacement). The closest estimate wins 5 bonus points!

Important: No two players can submit the same estimate.

    Scoring & Winning

    • Points vary by game difficulty and correctness
    • Incorrect answers show detailed explanations
    • Final winner is determined after the bonus round
    • All scores are saved to the leaderboard

    Tips for Success

    • Watch the timer – don't run out of time!
    • Read explanations when you get something wrong
    • Higher risk predictions in Poker can earn more points
    • In Monte Hall, always switch!
    • Take your time on calculation problems – they're worth 2 minutes
